3 Secrets of Spiritual Success
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim
The apostle Paul was a man greatly used by God. Why? What are the secrets of His success? Let's hear from him in Romans 1:1."Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God"
Secret #1: I Know My Master
Paul could have used any of the titles he earned as a brilliant scholar and teacher of the law to refer to himself. Instead, in Romans 1:1, he humbly identifies himself as a servant (better translated as a slave) of Jesus Christ. Servant-heartedness towards man begins with knowing who we really are before God - slaves of Jesus Christ. Only when we realize Jesus is our Master who gave His life for us, then will we serve him and others freely, being compelled by love for Him.
Secret #2: I Know My Mission
Paul knew his mission. He was called to be an apostle of Jesus to feed the flock. We too need to know our mission given by Jesus in the Great Commission -to make disciples of all nations. You have a divine calling beyond simply working in a self-fulfilling job. You are called to lead people to Jesus Christ. Let this be the real mission for your life - not just fishing for fish, but fishing for men.
Secret #3: I Know My Message
Paul says he is set apart for the gospel. He also said in 1 Cor. 2:2, " For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.." Paul was a man of uncompromising loyalty and resolve to preach the timeless truth in truth-less times. There were certainly many hot topics in those days too, but Paul knew his central message in the gospel.
Successful living before God begins when we understand that we are servants of Jesus Christ, who have been given a clear mission to make disciples, with a powerful message of the gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ dying and rising to save us from our sins in order to reconcile sinful man to the Holy God). May these secrets be your too!
