The Promised Gospel

We all love good news, and the Bible gives us the greatest good news of all. The Bible tells us how God gave His Son Jesus to reconcile sinful man to Himself. This is what we call the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The gospel is not a new idea that Jesus came up with when He was on Earth. It is not a novelty but an ancient promise made and kept by God. As Paul said in Romans 1:1-2, the gospel was " … promised beforehand." The gospel was actually promised in the Old Testament, and now, Jesus is the fulfillment of the promise. Martin Luther says that the gospel, "represents not a break with the past, but a consummation of it." At the start of the Bible Genesis 3:15, God said, "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." God's plan to reverse the effects of sin was first promised with this declaration, long before Jesus was born. Jesus is that offspring who will crush Satan's head. He has destroyed the works of the Devil through His death and resurrection. 

Friends, the gospel is not found in only one book or one chapter or in a corner of a page of the Bible. The gospel is the central theme of the entire Bible. It is what the books from Genesis to Revelation are all about! It's centred on the good news of Jesus Christ. May you be saved as you repent and believe the promised Gospel.
