You Shall Not Be Ashamed

The new testament teaches that the nation of Israel stumbled over Jesus Christ. They stumbled over His birth, wondering, "how can our Saviour be born in a manger?" They stumbled over His social status, wondering, "how can our Saviour be a carpenter's son?" They stumbled over His death, wondering, "how can our Saviour be executed on a cross?" As a result, they did not receive Jesus as their Lord, but viewed Him as a liar. 

They had expected a conquering king. They had thought that their Saviour would have defeated all his earthly enemies. But when Jesus arrived, He was gentle and meek. He came not to take lives, but to give His life as a ransom for many. You see, they did not realize that the gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ humbling Himself to the cross so that we may be exalted. The gospel tells of the eternal and glorious Son of God being born into a poor carpenter's family, and that one day, He would die a cruel death to atone for the sins of the world. Jesus came to serve. He came to sacrifice. He came to give Himself up for us all. And they who believe in Him will be saved. 

One day in the future, He will return to judge the world, and we will then see the vengeance of the Lord. Those who were ashamed of Him and rejected Him will perish in everlasting torment, but those who have believed in Him and embraced Him as their King will be raised to everlasting life and joy. God said in Romans 6:33 "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.." Today the world may mock your faith in Jesus, but God promises - you shall not be put to shame.
