Not Ashamed
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim
Apostle Paul was unapologetic for the gospel of Christ. He declares in Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation…” Although he says that he was unashamed, there is in fact great shame contained within the gospel.
For one, Jesus’ crucifixion was one of great shame. It was reserved for the murderer, the rapist, the lowest and vilest of criminals. They were often stripped, abused, and scourged, before being hung up as a disgrace publicly. Jesus died a criminal’s execution and suffered false allegations against him. His ministry and claims were discredited, his name was dragged through the mud. Jesus received all this humiliation. Yet Paul says, I am not ashamed!
Secondly, when we share the gospel today, people will shame you. The bible says that Christ crucified is foolishness to the world. It’s madness to them. The world laughs because to them it is folly. But God says the gospel is “the power of God for salvation.” (Rom 1:16) It is the amazing power of God to deliver us fully and finally from the penalty and the power of sin.
Friends, we can live unashamed of the gospel. It doesn’t matter how much ridicule or persecution we may face. The gospel can change your life. It is the unstoppable power of God for salvation to mankind.
