Daniel:
Brother Daniel Yip was confirmed as a full-time staff member of GLCC recently. His designation is Youth Ministry Asst Leader. We asked him some questions about his call to serve full-time:
1) Why did you choose to serve full-time?
My passion has always been to serve the next generation. I greatly enjoy spending time with them, encouraging them in their faith, as well as teaching and guiding them when the opportunity arises.
At the same time, I was not interested in working in the secular world. I was not as motivated as others to succeed in the secular workplace. After a short stint there, I began to be quite sure that this was not how I wanted to spend my life. I started to think that if youth ministry was my passion, then that would be where I would much prefer to spend all my active hours in.
After a period of praying and discerning God’s prompting, the call to spend all my working hours with the youth ministry persisted. I decided to obey and honour God, and His leading in this area.
2) What were the major obstacles you faced before choosing this vocation?
My background and education. Through my schooling years I had the opportunity to study at high-ranking schools, all of which propagated the culture and mindset of material success. Walking away from that was indeed difficult as it meant surrendering personal ambition.
3) What are you most excited about in your future as a full-time staff member?
I am excited to be a part of God’s work through GLCC. I believe God has amazing things in store for the church and our youth ministry, and it is a privilege to watch it unfold from a front-row seat.
4) What would you say to others considering full-time ministry?
Be bold in taking steps of faith. It has been challenging yet rewarding and I trust that God will never short-change us.
