Faith that Triumphs

Faith that Triumphs
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery over it. It is the willingness to do right even when one is afraid. Daniel the prophet was a man of courage. He chose to do right even in the face of certain death. So what was his secret?

First, let me say that courage is not simply telling yourself not to be fearful. That is psychology. It does not work. It is like a drowning man trying to pull himself out of the water. What is needed for courage is confidence in God and what He has promised. Isaiah 12:2 says, "…Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength…"

Fear is an emotion. Courage is a choice. Courage is choosing to look to God and stepping forward in obedience, and not to simply react based on your feelings. Therefore, courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

Are you fearful of sharing the gospel? Are you fearful of giving for the cause of Christ? Are you fearful of stepping forward to serve God? The Christian triumphs over fear because we can count on God, who will never leave us nor forsake us. Trust and obedience in Jesus is the guarantee of lasting joy. So friends, let us be strong and of good courage!
