Heart to Heart
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim

True ministry is not head to head, rather it is heart to heart. In Romans 1:9, Paul says, "For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit." He says I serve God with my heart, with my inner man, with my spirit. The motivation for ministry must flow from this inner drive. If your desire is to serve others, your ministry must spring from the heart. Although Paul was a brilliant theologian, he understood ministry must come from the heart.

"For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine." (Romans 1:11- 12) Here Paul makes it clear that his ministry is all about others. We must not do ministry for our own gain - be it fame, reputation or the praise of men. Ministry must be about benefitting others.

So, from these few verses, let us learn to fulfill the Great Commandment in loving and serving God and men. People don't care what you know until they know that you care. Don't serve from your head, but from your heart. May your ministry be one that flows from the love of God in His gospel, and one which builds up and blesses others.
