Made For God
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim
Many of us spend our time, energy, effort and years on the things that don’t matter ultimately. We spend our lives on things that are not real, not lasting, and not significant. We then find that at the end of our journey, we are still left lost, empty and lonely.
These things that we’ve invested in do not really satisfy, they do not fulfill us. There’s a saying that goes, “to live is the rarest thing in the world, most people exist that is all.” Most people just exist, they just live from day to day. They live so they can work, they work so that they can earn money, they earn money so they can spend it and when the money is spent, the process repeats. That’s the cycle of life! Most of us exist, but how many really live?
The question is, therefore: What is life? John 1:1 says, “That which was from the beginning, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life.” Apostle John, without giving any introduction, seems very eager to tell his readers about life in Christ (which he goes on to do later in the book).
That’s what the Bible is all about. That’s what Christianity is all about. It’s about finding real life. The real life that leads to true and lasting joy. God doesn’t want you to find counterfeit happiness in broken cisterns and the empty promises of the world. He wants you to realize that you are made for Him and you will be satisfied only if you come to Him.
