1. THE COMMAND TO LOVE. Love is self-giving for others, proven in action. We are to love the brotherhood earnestly, constantly, and sincerely, putting away love-killing sins: malice, deceit, hypocrisy, and slander. 2. THE CONVERSION TO LOVE. We can love because we’ve been purified and given new hearts. Born again through God’s eternal Word to a living hope, we need not live self-serving or anxious lives but can give ourselves to serve. 3. THE CRAVING THAT FUELS LOVE. Just as we have tasted the Word that gives us new birth in Christ, we are now to crave for the same Word that grows us so that we may love.
Pastor Jason's sermon on 1 Peter emphasizes the importance of Christians loving one another in a hostile world. He draws parallels to the story of Punch the monkey and Go Chan, illustrating the need for mutual support. Key verses include 1 Peter 1:22-2:3, which stress the need to love earnestly, reject malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander, and crave God's Word. Love is defined as sacrificing to benefit others, and Christians are urged to love from pure hearts and without ulterior motives. The sermon also highlights the need for spiritual growth through the Word of God.
