The Most Shocking Thing Jesus Said
  • Topic: CHRISTIAN LIVING, DEATH AND DYING, HOPE, SALVATION MESSAGE, THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

Overview

Jesus said, "On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,  and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? ’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you. . . ' Nothing can be more shocking to someone who thought he knew Jesus, but who is told Jesus never knew him. He may have the right information about Jesus, and he may even be a preacher or a miracle worker, but that doesn't automatically mean he is a follower of Jesus. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. " According to Jesus, the ultimate test of a Christian is not miracles, but obedience (to do God's will written in His Laws). A genuine encounter with a great God through Jesus Christ cannot leave us unchanged. True salvation is about a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ! Let this message help you to examine yourself if you are really in the faith. May this sermon also encourage you in a more biblical way to evangelise. God bless!

Well a very good morning to all of you and welcome to Gospel Light, our first English worship service this Sunday. As mentioned, this is a special Sunday because this is the day we remember the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is highly significant because that means what Jesus has accomplished on the Cross is fully accepted by God, the Father.  He has finished paying for all our sins.

Jesus is the Conqueror over sin, death and hell and all of us today can be saved from our sins.  All of us can be reconciled to the Holy God because Jesus paid it all.  His resurrection is the proof, it is fully paid and so we are glad you're here with us this morning and our prayer for each and every one is that you will come to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Now I’ll like to share with you as well from the Word of God today and as a church we have been looking at this series called “Two Ways To Live”.  It's a series based on the last few words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 7 called the Sermon on the Mount and it is a very simple er series as it were because it just tells us that there are two ways man can go upon or two ways men can embark upon to try to reach God or try to find eternal life so let me get my whiteboard.  Jesus has been telling us, telling us that there are two ways man may embark upon to find eternal life, to reach God.

The first way is a way that is marked by a broad gate and this broad gate leads you to an easy way.  It goes down, it's easy but the problem is that though this is the way many people embark upon hoping to find life, Jesus says this broad gate and easy way leads to destruction so this implies or is indicating how if you go on this path, you don't find God, you find hell, you find misery, you find eternal torment but He tells us that there is a second way.  A second way is guarded by a narrow gate and this narrow gate leads to a hard way but though this is a hard way, it leads you to eternal life, to God, heaven. Now, how many people are in the easy way?  How many people are in the hard way?  Well the Bible tells us there are many who will go on this way but few there’ll be that find the narrow gate and go upon the hard way.

What is Jesus saying here, Jesus is saying there is only one way to God through the narrow gate and what is the narrow gate?  Well later on, He tells us, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father but by me. There's only one way to God and that is through Jesus Christ. Jesus came to die and pay for our sins and only those who believe upon Him will find eternal life. Now it's a narrow gate because you have to squeeze through, you have to leave behind the love for the things of this world.  You have to leave behind the love for the sins of this world.  You are to leave behind your self-righteous efforts.  You got to leave it all and depend on Jesus alone. Now, this way is not easy thereafter because it is a way where you have to surrender yourself, deny yourself, take up the Cross, you'll be persecuted, you may go through trials and tribulations but if you go on this way and you keep going this way, at the end of the day, you will find eternal life.

Now, in contrast to that is the broad gate.  The broad gate is a convergence, a summary of all human religion, of all human efforts to try to reach God by themselves. Every religion, apart from Jesus Christ, tells you to do good in order to reach God, that's the broad gate.  It is easy because in a sense, it does not demand that you deny yourself too much.  Yes you may have to deny yourself some superficial things but in the depths of your heart, you don't really need to change, it's still you as contrasted with the narrow gate where you have to deny yourself, do the Father's will and not do what your will is so the broad gate leads to an easy way and many go upon this path and find at the end of it all tragically, damnation and torment.

Now Jesus then also tells us that there are two kinds of preachers, two kinds of prophets.  You've the true prophet who stands here and calls people to repent, to come through the narrow gate and then you have another kind of a preacher, the false preacher who tells you, you don't need Jesus, Jesus is not the only way, so, so far, I think Jesus gives us two portals, two gates, He gives us two paths, easy one and a difficult one. He gives us two kinds of prophets, a false prophet and a true prophet and today we're going to look at two kinds of people. Two kinds of people who are in church, those who really know God and those who pretend to know God or who imagine themselves to know God, but in reality do not really know God.

I like you to think along with me about a man, let's call him John. Suppose John is born into a Christian home, he has Christian parents, his parents have been bringing him to church, teach him the Bible tells him all the Bible stories about David, Moses, Jesus and so on, he's familiar with it. He then grew up in a Sunday school, in a youth group, he got baptized, he joins church mission trips, he helps out in some of the ministries in church. He continues to grow and he found a girlfriend, got married, have kids and brought his entire family to church. He's a decent churchgoer, nice guy, he's rather successful in his career, lives in a nice house, respected by people, sometimes during Christmas and Easter, he'll invite his family, his friends, his colleagues to church but one day John met with a tragic road accident.  He died and his family, friends, colleagues all gather at his funeral, they were grieved that he's dead but many of his church friends are in a sense, glad because John, right now, they believe, is with God in heaven for evermore.

Fast forward to a day in the future, we do not know when, but fast forward to a day where John will meet with the Judge of the world, Jesus Christ to face His judgment. John was eagerly waiting for the day of judgment because he feels, he believes, he's longing to wait for, he's longing to hear from the Judge these words, “well done you good and faithful servant enter into My rest” so he comes before the Judge, before Jesus hoping to hear this warm and loving and encouraging words but Jesus then said to him, “I never knew you.”  What, what do you mean you didn't know me, I never knew you but I was in church, my parents are Christians, I was baptized, I'm a moral man, I'm a decent man and I'm not guilty of any vice, I, I bring my friends to church, I give my money to the church and I've been a good guy, God, I knew You, I called You Lord, my whole life. I never knew you John. Didn't you read in the Bible, not everyone who says to Me Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven!  On that day many will say to Me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and cast out demons in your name and do many mighty works in your name and then I will declare to them, I never knew you, depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness. One of the most shocking things Jesus ever said, I think to someone like John must be I never knew you!  Could it be that one day, if I stand before Jesus, instead of “well done you good and faithful servant”, He could say to me or He could say to you, I never knew you.

Now, I want you to notice that the people Jesus are talking about in this three verses are not people outside church.  He's not talking about people who have never heard the Bible, who have never been to church, He's talking to people who have read the Bible, understood some things of Scripture and probably gather with other fellow Christians because these are people who know something about Jesus that a lot of people didn't know.  They called Jesus Lord. You say, what’s so special about the word Lord?  Well, the word Lord in the Greek can mean sir, S I R, sir, hi sir.  It can mean as simple as that but it could mean something far more.  It is the word “curios” which is the Greek version of a Hebrew name, Jehovah.

In other words, I, I believe Jesus is saying, there are many people who would recognize me to be God, they don't just see me as a as a prophet or a carpenter's son.  They know that I am God they call me curios, curios!  They are a well-taught, well-informed people. Not only that these people can do quite amazing things.  They can prophesy, they can teach, they can preach like me today. They can cast out demons, I can't even do that, they can do many mighty works in the name of Jesus but I never knew them.

Now the question you may have is Pastor, is it possible that people can actually do these miracles even though they are not of God? I thought if I could do miracles, I thought that if I could heal, if, if I thought if I could cast out demons, I must be of God. Jesus says, no, you can do all these things, amazing spectacular things but they do not prove conclusively you are of God. Now don't be shocked because actually throughout the Bible it is proven that not everyone who performs miracles are of God.

Let me give you some examples.  Remember the story of Moses?  Moses came before Pharaoh and said God has a message for you listen and Pharaoh didn't want to listen so Moses cast his staff in the ground and it turned into a, into a snake, now that is of God but you know what the sorcerers of Egypt did?  They did likewise, they cast their staff onto the ground and they also became snakes. Of course Moses snake eat their snakes, alright but they still could do something miraculous. Now the sorcerers of Egypt are not of God but that's a miracle. The Bible tells us then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the same by their secret arts, not of God but of the occult.

The Bible continues to tell us if a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, in other words, this guy really did not fake a miracle, it's a real miracle, it's a sign, it's a wonder and it really comes to pass, is this guy of God?  Well, he tells you, let us go after other gods, you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul so God is saying He allows people who are not of Him to do some amazing miracles to test you so today we hear of claims of miracles are they all of God? No, you can't conclude they are all of God. Why did God allow that to happen, well, so that those who do not really love God will be shown up that they follow such false teachers!  Well that's what it’s said in Deuteronomy. Matthew chapter 10 and He called to Him His 12 disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits cast them out to heal every disease and every affliction. You say where's the false guy here?  You know where's the false guy here? Judas - He gave to all 12 of them, these abilities and Judas is not of God. He pretended to be, he was a hypocrite and he did have the ability given by Christ to do many miraculous things but he’s not of God at the end of the day.

Some of us here, if you're not convinced alright, Matthew 24 for false Christ and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect, scary!  We think anyone who does spectacular things must be empowered by God, no, that's not what the Bible teaches, not at all, not by a mile!  Acts 16 tells us there was a slave girl who had a spirit of divination.  You, you want fortune-telling?  Some people say, I want to know my future, I want God to tell me my future, are you sure it's God who's telling you the future.  Well it may be demonic because Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her so she had that ability not because she was of God, but she was possessed by the devil.

2nd Thessalonians, the coming of the lawless one, is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders and with all wicked deception. Now I think, I hope this is conclusive for you to see that when Jesus spoke about people who claim to be able to teach, preach, cast out demons, perform signs and wonders, they are absolutely not conclusive proof that they are of God, you get that so there may be people in churches today who say I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. He, you assume must be of God it's not true, not at all so Jesus says, I never knew you but I could do all these things, you were not mine, just like the sorcerers of Egypt were not mine, just like Antichrist is not mine, you're not mine!  How do you know?  You workers of lawlessness, you're not mine because you do not follow the law, you do not obey the Scriptures.  You see those who are God's, Jesus says, are the ones who will do the will of My Father.

Now I've spoken for long while but what's my point, what's the point Jesus is making? Very simple alright, I hope you understand this point and that's the main crux of the sermon.  The main point is this, the ultimate test of a Christian, what is it?  The fact that I can say Lord, Lord, the fact that I could cast out demons, the fact I'm teaching and preaching today?

What's the ultimate test of a Christian?  One word, you're right, obedience!  What do you mean about obedience? To do God's will, written in the law. Who is a true follower of Jesus?  Someone who was baptized when he was young, someone who professes faith, someone who can do miracles, Jesus says no, the ultimate test of a Christian is obedience, obedience to do God's will, where written in the law, it's very concrete, it's very clear.

Now of course I think today, it is not clear in many churches and many Christians’ mind but in Scripture, it is very, very clear.  It's not just here but everywhere else in Scripture.  Luke 6, why do you call Me Lord, Lord and not do what I tell you, everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and does them, I will show you what he is like so Jesus is very concrete, it's not just about what you say, it's not just about what you hear, it's about what you do.  A true Christian obeys.  Goes on in 2nd Timothy but God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal the Lord knows those who are His and let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity. If you say you follow Jesus then obey Him, leave sin behind. Elsewhere, Titus 1:16 they profess to know God, they profess to know God but they deny Him by their works, they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

Now, this can't get clearer, right?  1st John, whoever says I know Him but does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.  Now are you surprised that Jesus would say I never knew you?  Actually, this is not a surprise at all because that's how he started the Sermon on the Mount.  He says, I tell you, unless your righteousness, your, your life shows such a holiness that is even greater than the Scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of God so the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven is the one who enter the kingdom of God.

The ultimate test of a Christian is obedience.  I want you to be very clear here, I know that can be confusing for some, I know people may say, ah Pastor you are teaching legalism.  Pastor, you are teaching that we need to obey God in order to be saved. Now let me be very, very clear, that's not what Jesus is saying at all, Jesus is not saying keep the law in order to be saved.  No, He is not saying that but He's saying the saved will keep the law. Those who are saved, according to the Bible are those whose heart has been radically changed by God, those who are saved are those who are born again.  God has given them a new heart.  God has given them a heart transplant that they will now love him and know Him and fear Him and keep His Word, the saved!  Those who had a heart transplant, those who are born again will keep the law of God that's how you know you have a new heart, that's how you know you're born again, you, you live differently isn't it?

Now let me say this, suppose, I came late to church this morning.  I came in looking like this, exactly like this, I came in and rushed in and say, hey folks, I'm really sorry I'm late but you know what I just had an encounter with a huge lorry. The lorry just banged all over me.  It rolled over me and so I was injured for a while and that's why I'm late. Now what would you say?  You are a liar and why are you liar because it is impossible for anyone to have an encounter with something so big like a lorry to remain the same, impossible. If I really had the lorry rolled over me I won't look the same, right?  It is impossible for any man who have a, who has a true encounter with Jesus, to be the same, impossible and if you say you know Jesus but your life remains the same I say you are liar and the truth is not in you.

Now are you saying that I must be perfect like Jesus to prove that I am of Jesus, no.  In, in this church, we recognize this statement, I think it's a very useful statement, we always say, the proof of the Christian life is not perfection, it is not sinless perfection but sincere progression, life is seen when there is change, there is growth, there's progress, we are not saying that a Christian is someone who is perfect. There is no Christian like this but it does say, the Bible does teach that if you are born again, you will change you've a life changing relationship with Jesus. Not sinless perfection but sincere progression because the saved will keep the law.

If you're not clear already, let me just put it further, obedience is the proof of salvation, not the purchase of your salvation, you don't buy salvation, you don't earn salvation with your obedience but your obedience is the evidence of it. Or, if you like another L, letter of the alphabet, obedience is the manifestation of salvation, not the means of salvation. Finally, obedience is the evidence of salvation, not the earning of salvation.  We have to be crystal clear here.  Jesus is not telling you now you go and obey the law so that I will save you, no, He's saying the saved, those who truly belong to Me, they will keep the law, that's the natural outflow of a man who is born again so keeping the law doesn't make you saved, but salvation makes you keep the law, simple as that. Get that so far because the ultimate test of a Christian is obedience, to do God's will written in the law.

Now the whole point Jesus is making is to attack this problem of self-delusion.  You think you are a lion, when you are actually a small cat. You know, the problem with church goers today, is this problem. You think like John because you're born in a Christian home, because of you have learnt Bible truths, you have heard the Bible Gospel stories, because you were baptized, because you have a Christian name, because you wear a cross, because you read the Bible and pray, because you do all these externalities, the trappings, you must be of God. Jesus says no, not everyone who knows that I'm God, not everyone who preaches in My Name, not everyone who can do spectacular things are of Me but only those who do the will of My Father and the tragic thing is that many will say to Me Lord, Lord, it is a shocker, not a few are deluded, not a few are self-deceived but many people will be self-deceived, many!

Can you imagine if God one day is to judge people, I'm not sure how He's going to judge altogether or in groups of classification like country or even church, suppose one day, we all die, and God judges Gospel Light Christian church on the first of April 10am, this group, we all appear, if this is true for us, you know how scary that is, when you look around, you thought we are all going to heaven right?  I'm a Christian, I sang very loudly just now, I, I was not late in church, I'm going to give money to the offering bag, I should be fine right?  Well, it might be that many here would hear the words of Jesus, I never knew you.  You may say, Lord, Lord, you may do many of these things but the words, I never knew you, depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness, are scary words!

Now I want you to understand, I don't think Jesus said these words with glee, many of you won't be saved, I, I don't think that's what He meant. I, I suppose, He spoke with a heart that is broken. I suppose He spoke with a heart that wishes and yearns that people will not just assume their salvation. I believe He spoke out of love to warn the people listening in that they must not assume that because they are Jews because they have the law because they take part in ceremonial washings and processes that they must be of God.

You see the heart of our Lord is to seek and save that which is lost. The Bible tells us, for God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through Him and that's my motive and purpose to preach this, this morning. I'm not here to gloat or to mock but I'm here to say please, would you please listen to what Jesus is saying, examine yourself, think about your own life and not be falsely assured, don't be self-deluded so I say to yourself, today, please examine yourself, it's biblical.  Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith.

Now when you go for a health check, they give you some tests - urine test, blood test, chest x-ray so what is the test I need to apply to my life to see whether I am in the faith?  Is it a test of baptism, is it a test of whether I had an emotional response to the Gospel, is it a test that I read the Bible every day, is it a test that my parents are good Christians, is it a test that I could teach the Bible, is it a test that I can cast out demons, is it a test that I can even perform miracles, no, what's the test?  The ultimate test of a Christian is obedience.

Now Paul says or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, do not be deceived. If your life is stuck in sexual sins, dishonesty, covetousness, drunkenness, you are reviler, you are a swindler, if your life is perpetually in such a state, Paul says, do not be deceived.  Just because you come to church doesn't cover up for the lack of life change in you.

Now again, this is not saying or not pitching sinless perfection but sincere progression. There should be such a change in your life that you're less and less and less and less like this and more and more and more like Jesus and it is in this transformation that you know you are of God. What really holds on the day of judgement is not your declaration Lord, Lord but in your transformation that you're more like Jesus so John died and will meet with the Judge one day. God is not going to ask him, John how much money have you given in the offering bag, John how long were you in the waters of baptism, John, how often are you in church service but John do you obey Me, do you do My will, because a saved man will do God's will.

A second thing I want to say to you is, I think knowing that the ultimate test of a Christian is obedience has great implications in how we share the Gospel - evangelism. You know, evangelism is not a difficult process in a sense, it's very straightforward. You tell people about their sin that separates them from God, their Creator.  You tell them about Jesus, God's Son who came into this world, born as man so that He may die and pay for our sins.  You tell them that Jesus is risen today and those who repent and believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. You tell them the Gospel and you may take some weeks, some days, some time to share that and help them understand and most of us eventually will come to stage, a, a time where we ask, would you want to believe in Jesus. Some of them will say no but some of them say, yah, I think I want to believe in Jesus and so the next thing we do is come, John, let's pray together. Lord, please help John and we pray and we pray and so far so good, not a problem but the problem comes when after we have prayed, we say to John, John, did you pray that in your heart yah, I followed you, I did, John you're now a Christian. John, congratulations, you're now a child of God, you are saved.

John then asks you how, how do I know I'm saved?  I, I don't feel anything yet but how do I know I'm saved? John, were you sincere when we prayed just now, yah, did you understand what I prayed just now? Yah, then John, you are saved. Take your Bible turn to the last page, write the date down, 1st of April, write it down and the next time you doubt your salvation, go to the back of your Bible and say 1st of April is the day you are saved, John, I prayed for you, you are saved.  Do you know that's how we do evangelism, that's why many people will say to Jesus on the last day, Lord, Lord, didn't I believe and Jesus will say to them, I never knew you.

You see, according to Jesus the ultimate test of a Christian is not his profession but his transformation. How do you know, how do you know as an evangelist that he really believe in his heart, can you know, can you see, no? Pastor, didn’t the Bible says in Romans 10 that if we confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved?  I say absolutely yes, Romans 10:9 is true but the key is this - you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, how do you know he really believed?  The only way you know he really believes is when he obeys but on that day how do you tell, you can't?

Now, let me be very clear, I'm not running down, I'm not saying when someone says, I want to believe, you say, aiyah, you “geh one la” [local dialect : not truthful].  Now I, I’m not saying that, I'm not saying you, you run him down and you laugh at him and you say, aah, I don't believe you. You celebrate, you rejoice, you give thanks, great that you want to, John, I'm so happy you understood these things but let me tell you, salvation is a heart transplant, it's a new life and if you're really born again, if God has really changed your heart, given you new life, praise be to God and, and you will know it when your life continues to change, John, that's how you will know you're born again.  In other words, I'm saying in evangelism, we must not be too quick to pronounce someone saved, you can't be too quick. Paul Washer, he says, you do not tell them they are saved, you tell them how to be saved but it is God who tells them they are saved. How does God tell them they are saved by the witness of a changed life!

So often churches today do altar calls, you know what's altar calls right?  I preach a sermon today, I play some nice music, I make it very sobby, very teary for you, you feel very emotional, then I say whoever wants to believe in Jesus, raise your hands and then, well, some of you, you raise your hands, great and I pray Lord, help them to be saved, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah and then after that I said those who raise your hands, you believe in Jesus in the heart, you prayed along with me you are now a Christian.  Who tells you they are now Christians?  They responded your invitation, they want to believe in Jesus but how do you know they really repented and believe in Jesus, you can't presume that. Nothing wrong with inviting people to make a response of repentance and faith, nothing wrong with that, the whole problem is when you pronounce someone saved simply because he said so.  We rejoice in the profession but we say we want to teach you, we want to continue to disciple you, we’ll continue to be journeying with you, what it looks like to be saved.

Now, I've shared the Gospel with several people in my life.  In the past, I will be quite quick because I want some statistics to say I preached to so and so many people and how many are saved, I assumed that but I've since repented of it and now when I share the Gospel, it takes a way longer time, it's not one encounter, it's a few times, sometimes one year, two years, three years and all along when I share, when the person I think I could see a change in their understanding but I never tell that individual that he or she is saved, I don't know. I'll tell them what salvation is like, how you be, you're saved but I say you got to decide, you got to know for yourself, you got to discern for yourself, examine yourself, whether you are in the faith and so along the journey I sometimes very “kanchiong” [local dialect: anxious] wahlau [local slang: exclamation], so obvious already, still don't want to say you're saved, aiyoh, it's real, but I, I, I hold back and after a while I see that the person says, I think I'm saved. I say OK good, praise God and I see them continuing in the way of Jesus and then there are others who come to me and say Pastor, I'm not really sure I'm saved. I say I also not sure, but let's look at the Bible, let's look at the marks of a Christian, let's look at the evidences of a changed life, you decide for yourself, according to the Scriptures, you know yourself the best, are you saved, do you want to be saved?

With my own son, Shawn, he made a profession five years ago. Do you know something?  I'm still asking Shawn how do you know you're saved?  Shawn, what evidence is there in your life that you are a child of God, I ask that all the time. I ask that of myself, all the time because the last thing I wish for Shawn is for him to grow up in Gospel Light, live in the shadow of his father who is called the Pastor and one day stand before Jesus and hear the Lord say I never knew you Shawn, I never knew you. I don't wish that for any single one of you here and I warn you and I plead with you, please do not sit on a false presumption.

Now some of you say, alright Pastor, I recognize today, I don’t have life change, I recognize today that I've been to church for 20, 30 years, I grew up in church but I, I can't say my life is different, I don't see evidence of change in my life. What do I now, Pastor, do I now obey God and be a good person and repent of my sins and try to be righteous so that I may get saved. I say no, you don't do that. Why because right now, you are on the easy way, you don't do, you don't continue to do good things on the easy way, what do you need to do? You need to U-turn and go to the narrow gate, you've got to come to Jesus, truly repent of your sin and believe upon Him. Why, because the gate is narrow, it’s only Jesus and the way is hard that leads to life.

This is not a sermon that says do good, so that you will be saved, this is a sermon that says the saved will obey God's will and if you're not obeying God's will, that means you have never gone through the narrow gate, you're not on the hard way so come through the narrow gate today come through Jesus Christ today repent and believe in Him, follow Him and at the end of your journey you will hear the words, well done My good and faithful servant. May this resurrection Sunday be a day of real salvation for you!

Let's bow for a word of prayer together. Many people would say to Jesus I knew you, Jesus would say I never knew you. You know I'm, I don't even know where to begin when I see all of you, I see your faces, I see you each and every Sunday, I'm glad you are here but at the same time, I'm sad that perhaps you may not really know Jesus. You might think to yourself coming to church is a good idea, having some kind of religion is not bad, this church looks quite cool, quite comfortable I, I don't mind being in the people here, I have some good friends here but friends, what will happen to you on the day you die and meet Jesus, where are you, may God have mercy on you and on all of us today.

Father this morning, we thank You for Your merciful words in Scripture. It is hard truths but it is good truths.  Lord, even as I pray there are so many faces that flashed through my mind, people I fear for and concern for, O God would You speak to them, speak to all of us here, teach us to humble ourselves and to examine our hearts, teach us to realize we are not to change ourselves in order to be saved but we need to be saved in order to be able to change so would You today by Your Spirit, draw men and women to Jesus Your Son, may the wind of the Spirit blow and move in hearts, cause Your people to repent and to believe in Jesus that they may be born again that their hearts will really be changed that we would not assume and head straight to the fires of hell. Thank You, Lord Jesus for saying these words, that this morning we might be warned, O have mercy on Your people this morning, we thank You and we pray all this in Jesus Name, amen.
