Sovereign Grace

Sovereign Grace
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim

"And those whom He predestined He also called; and those whom He called He also justified; and those whom He justified He also glorified." (Romans 8:30)

A day is approaching when God's people will be glorified. We who are His will all receive a glorious new body and we will be perfectly sanctified, ready for everlasting communion with God. As co-heirs with Christ, we will share in the inheritance of the Son and reflect the full glory of God. This is the long-awaited day of our glorification.

Now notice in Romans 8:30 that this future day is spoken of in the past tense. "He also glorified!" It is not said, "He will glorify." None of us are glorified yet, but it is spoken of as if it is already done! Why? Because it is as good as done! Since God is the Sovereign One working out His promises, it will surely be done. It is indeed as good as done! In other words, Rom 8:30 speaks of a certainty to God's working - a process that begins in Heaven, comes to earth and returns to Heaven. It is a breath-taking panoramic view of what starts in eternity and ends in eternity.

There is no "if", there is no "perhaps", there is no "maybe". He says that whom He foreknows, He pre-destines, He calls, He justifies and He glorifies. There is no loss at all along the way. If God begins with 100 people in foreknowledge, there will be 100 people in predestination, there will be 100 people in calling, there will be 100 people in justification, and there will be 100 people in glorification. There will be no loss and no attrition. This is what we call sovereign grace. Nothing is left to chance, nothing is left to the undependable will of men. God is sovereignly at work. It will be done. Take heart! For you who are called will surely be glorified!
