The Good Purpose
Devotions with Pastor Jason Lim
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
God is always working everything together towards the ultimate good of His people. He is always working to pour out His blessings into our lives. Some time ago, a brother in the church had a stroke (bleeding in the brain). I was going to send a text message to our church family to pray for him. I wanted to type a simple message, "Our brother is going for an operation to stop the bleeding.” But as I was punching in the letters, an auto-correct took place and the message read, “Our brother is going for an operation to stop the 'BLESSING' (instead of BLEEDING)!”
A smile broke out on my face because I realized that this auto-correct suggestion was an impossibility. Nothing could stop the blessing of God for this brother. Even this supposed catastrophe - a life-threatening stroke - could not stop the blessings of God flowing into the life of this brother, who is one of “those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
God’s blessings in our lives are ultimately for His own glory. Ephesians 1:6 says that our salvation is “to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” That’s why we can be confident of His goodness and blessings in our lives, for our God is unyieldingly committed to glorifying Himself.
