Jeremiah’s warnings foretell the overthrow of Jerusalem by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar and the carrying away of Judah to Babylon as slaves for 70 years. At the same time, his message also contains prophecies of God’s restoration for the people of Israel to be fulfilled after their return from exiles.
Jeremiah points to a new covenant that God would make with His people by writing His law on the hearts of His people through the giving of the Holy Spirit. The new covenant reflects the immeasurable grace that God demonstrates towards all believers.
