John wrote his gospel to prove Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. He recorded several miraculous signs Jesus did so that we may believe Jesus is the Christ. (John 20:31). The last and perhaps the most spectacular of them all in the first 11 chapters must be the resurrection of Lazarus in Chapter 11. Lazarus was dead and his body laid in decay (4 days in the tomb). His body was a picture of utter hopelessness. But Jesus used this dire situation to draw out the faith of Martha, and to coach her to believe that He IS God the very God, and IS the resurrection and the life. The amazing resurrection was thus to glorify Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, and also that He is the resurrection & the life. It also foreshadowed an even greater resurrection, when Jesus would take up His own life after He laid it down at the cross. Today, we are faced with the question, "Who is Jesus Christ? " May the resurrection help you see that the Bible's witness is reliable- that Jesus is indeed the Christ, the Son of God, and that He is able to save us from our sins. May you turn to Him for life eternal.
